Welcome to the LFR Newsletter
Longmont Food Rescue’s mission is to redistribute nutritious food that retailers have deemed food ‘waste’ to feed hungry, homeless, and low-income populations directly.
Winter Spring Walkabout this Saturday!
Longmont Food Rescue will be at The Times Collaborative this Saturday, April 9 from 3:00-9:00pm for the Winter Spring Walkabout! All drink sales at The Times Collaborative will benefit our mission of food equity and hunger relief 🍽
Grow A Row for LFR
Spring is here, and with planting season underway, now is the perfect time to ‘Grow A Row’ of extra produce to help feed our community! Go HERE to download the Fresh Food Connect app and sign up to donate your excess bounty when it’s ready to harvest. There are options to participate as a gardener, courier, or both, so even if you don’t have a green thumb, you can still help get fresh food redistributed in our community!
Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested being a bike courier.
Welcome Our New 2022 Board Members!
We are honored to announce the addition of four new members to LFR’s Board of Directors: Sable Cofrin, Brenda Fuller, Richard Lippard, and Heather Taylor Oatley. Sable works at The Inn Between of Longmont, which provides supportive housing and resources to members of our homeless community, and she is looking forward to the opportunity to support food equity and distribution on a larger scale. Brenda works for food service management company Sodexo and has supported their Stop Hunger initiative since its founding in 1996, as well as other food insecurity-focused efforts. She is also the co-owner of Outworld Brewing in Longmont, and hopes to explore how restaurants can promote food justice and be included in our food rescue efforts. Richard is an instructor at Front Range Community College and is concurrently pursuing his Master of Public Health, through which he has partnered with LFR on multiple projects to support our mission and increase our community reach and impact. Heather works in the field of public safety and also owns a small business, Mindful Healing Acupuncture, LLC. She has a lifelong passion for hunger relief efforts, and has been volunteering with LFR since 2019 – if you’ve been to any of our public food distributions in the past year, you’ve seen her hard at work!
Welcome Sable, Brenda, Richard, and Heather! We look forward to the collective impact we can have together this year.
Fun Volunteer Opportunity: Earth Day Celebration
LFR will be at the 8th Annual Longmont Earth Day Celebration at the Longmont Museum on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00am-3:00pm. If you’d like to help at our booth, sign up for a volunteer shift HERE! Tabling training and volunteer t-shirts will be provided to any new volunteers. Thank you!
Want to help LFR?
We are currently seeking new food donation partners to help meet the increasing need for hunger relief resources. If you know of any local food producers who may want to donate their excess food, we would love to connect! We always welcome financial donations to support the work we do, and new volunteers. Email email@example.com if you’d like to get more involved!
