Welcome to the LFR Newsletter
Longmont Food Rescue’s mission is to redistribute nutritious food that retailers have deemed food ‘waste’ to feed hungry, homeless, and low-income populations directly.

Weekend Event: Slow Saturday at Ollin Farms
Join us this Saturday, October 22 from 10-2 PM for Slow Saturday at Ollin Farms. This event, hosted in partnership with Slow Food Boulder County, aims to connect community members to local producers and strengthen awareness of where our food comes from. We will be celebrating the Autumn harvest, learning about local and sustainable food, and collecting old Halloween costumes for those in need!

Volunteer Spotlight: Ewket Assefa
Ewket began volunteering with LFR in January 2021 and has been a dedicated volunteer ever since! She has rescued over 10,000 pounds of food from Whole Foods and Alfalfa’s Market, redistributing it to various supportive housing and low-income communities across Longmont. As an herbalist, Ewket believes that food is medicine and that it is important to provide nutritional food to vulnerable communities that do not normally have access to healthy choices. She is also a strong advocate for reducing food waste and our environmental footprint. We want to express our gratitude for all of Ewket’s hard work and continued commitment to helping LFR and the Longmont community! Thank you, Ewket!

Call for Contributors to the LFR Cookbook!
Our identities are shaped by food traditions, culture, and the sharing of meals. LFR is putting together a collection of recipes from our volunteers and community members that will be added to a Community Cookbook. If you would like to participate in this project, choose one dish or food item that highlights your identity, shares a family tradition, or simply brings you joy. We welcome all types of recipes and responses! Please complete this Google Form if you’re interested in contributing.
